Manufactured from genuine thermally modified pine for superior rot resistance and stability.
Specifically sized for compatibility with the DeckWise Drill & Driveโ„ข 3/8-inch countersink system.
Small quantity 25-count pack is ideal for trim work, railing accents, or spot repairs.

Best used for

  • 1Concealing face-screws on Thermo Pine railing caps or decorative trim integrated into a Cumaru or Ipe deck design.
  • 2Completing small-scale repairs or board replacements on thermally modified pine boardwalks or residential decks.
  • 3Finishing vertical siding or soffit installations where a fastener-free architectural appearance is required.
  • 4Providing a contrasting wood-plug aesthetic on dark tropical hardwood borders, such as Massaranduba or Red Balau, for specific design accents.

Pro tips for dense hardwoods

  • Always align the wood grain of the plug with the grain direction of the deck board before tapping it into place to ensure the plug remains nearly invisible after finishing.
  • Apply a small drop of high-quality exterior wood glue into the countersink hole before inserting the plug to prevent 'popping' during seasonal expansion and contraction.
  • Use a sharp wood chisel or a flush-cut saw to remove the excess plug material, then sand the area with 80-grit sandpaper before applying a UV-inhibiting hardwood oil.

How to Plug a Hardwood Deck

1

Countersink the Screw

Use a 3/8โ€ณ countersink bit to create a flat-bottomed hole roughly 1/4โ€ณ deep. The screw sits at the bottom; the plug fills the remaining space.

2

Apply Exterior Adhesive

Put a small bead of waterproof polyurethane glue (included in kits) into the hole. Too much glue squeezes out and creates a mess; too little and the plug loosens over time.

3

Seat the Plug

Tap the plug in with a rubber mallet or wood block until it seats against the glue. Ribbed plugs self-center and grip irregular holes; smooth plugs work best in precision-drilled holes.

4

Flush-Cut After Curing

Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to cure fully, then trim the plug flush with a sharp chisel or oscillating multi-tool. Sand lightly and apply finish.

Pro Tip from Our Deck Specialists

Order plugs cut from the same species AND the same board lot as your decking for the closest color and grain match. Plugs from a different harvest can look noticeably different.
