About this product
The DeckWise Garapa Wood Plug Starter Pack is a small-quantity kit designed to conceal face-fastened screws in Garapa hardwood decking and siding. It provides a color-matched, professional finish by filling counterbored holes with genuine Garapa wood, effectively hiding hardware and protecting fastener heads from the elements. This 25-count pack is specifically intended for small-scale projects, repairs, or finishing perimeter boards where hidden fasteners cannot be used.

Pro tips for dense hardwoods
- Apply a small drop of exterior-grade waterproof wood glue, such as Titebond III, to the side of the plug before tapping it into the pre-drilled 3/8 inch hole.
- Align the grain of the plug with the grain of the Garapa board before fully seating it to make the fastener location virtually invisible.
- After the glue has cured, use a sharp wood chisel or a flush-cut saw to remove the excess plug material, then sand lightly with 80-grit sandpaper.
- Always apply a UV-inhibiting hardwood oil finish, like Ipe Oil, to the plugs immediately after installation to prevent rapid silvering and ensure they match the deck boards.

Why Choose Plugs & Plug Kits?
How to Plug a Hardwood Deck
Countersink the Screw
Use a 3/8โณ countersink bit to create a flat-bottomed hole roughly 1/4โณ deep. The screw sits at the bottom; the plug fills the remaining space.
Apply Exterior Adhesive
Put a small bead of waterproof polyurethane glue (included in kits) into the hole. Too much glue squeezes out and creates a mess; too little and the plug loosens over time.
Seat the Plug
Tap the plug in with a rubber mallet or wood block until it seats against the glue. Ribbed plugs self-center and grip irregular holes; smooth plugs work best in precision-drilled holes.
Flush-Cut After Curing
Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to cure fully, then trim the plug flush with a sharp chisel or oscillating multi-tool. Sand lightly and apply finish.
Pro Tip from Our Deck Specialists
Order plugs cut from the same species AND the same board lot as your decking for the closest color and grain match. Plugs from a different harvest can look noticeably different.
