About this product

The DeckWise Master Plug Kit for Garapa is a comprehensive fastening system designed to hide face-screwed fasteners in hardwood decking. It eliminates visible screw heads by using matching Garapa wood plugs, providing the structural integrity of top-down fastening with the clean aesthetics of a hidden system. This kit is specifically for contractors and homeowners installing Garapa decks, stairs, or railing caps who require a seamless wood finish.

Includes 350 genuine Garapa wood plugs with a tapered and ribbed design for a superior friction fit.
Contains 350 Grade 305 stainless steel screws (#10 x 2-1/2") for high-level corrosion resistance in outdoor environments.
Complete installation set featuring a Smart-Bit pre-drilling and countersinking tool specifically calibrated for the included plugs.
Provides a mechanical face-fastening solution that meets or exceeds side-clip holding power for high-traffic tropical hardwood surfaces.

Best used for

  • 1Face-fastening the perimeter boards and stair treads of a Garapa deck where edge-fastening clips cannot be used.
  • 2Installing Garapa top-rail caps on deck railings to ensure a smooth, fastener-free surface for hands.
  • 3Securing vertical Garapa cladding or rainscreen siding where a traditional wood-plugged architectural look is desired.
  • 4Constructing Garapa benches and outdoor furniture to hide all metal hardware from view.

Pro tips for dense hardwoods

  • Always align the wood grain of the Garapa plug with the grain of the deck board before insertion to make the fastener virtually invisible after finishing.
  • Place a small drop of the included wood glue on the side wall of the plug rather than the bottom of the hole to avoid hydraulic pressure that can push the plug back out.
  • Use a sharp wood chisel or a flush-cut pull saw to remove the plug protrusion before sanding to avoid heat friction marks on the dense Garapa surface.
  • Ensure the Smart-Bit tool is kept clear of debris between holes to maintain a consistent countersink depth across the entire project.

How to Plug a Hardwood Deck

1

Countersink the Screw

Use a 3/8β€³ countersink bit to create a flat-bottomed hole roughly 1/4β€³ deep. The screw sits at the bottom; the plug fills the remaining space.

2

Apply Exterior Adhesive

Put a small bead of waterproof polyurethane glue (included in kits) into the hole. Too much glue squeezes out and creates a mess; too little and the plug loosens over time.

3

Seat the Plug

Tap the plug in with a rubber mallet or wood block until it seats against the glue. Ribbed plugs self-center and grip irregular holes; smooth plugs work best in precision-drilled holes.

4

Flush-Cut After Curing

Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to cure fully, then trim the plug flush with a sharp chisel or oscillating multi-tool. Sand lightly and apply finish.

Pro Tip from Our Deck Specialists

Order plugs cut from the same species AND the same board lot as your decking for the closest color and grain match. Plugs from a different harvest can look noticeably different.
