About this product

The DeckWise Extreme Plug® Ribbed in Garapa is a specialized wood fastening accessory designed to conceal face-screws in tropical hardwood installations. These plugs are milled from genuine Garapa to provide a seamless, fastener-free appearance for decking, siding, and outdoor furniture. The ribbed design increases surface area for glue bonding, ensuring the plugs remain securely seated despite the natural expansion and contraction of dense timber.

Milled from kiln-dried, genuine Garapa (Apuleia leiocarpa) for an exact color and grain match.
Ribbed side geometry provides superior grip and increased glue surface area compared to smooth-sided plugs.
Tapered design allows for easy initial insertion and a tight, wedge-like fit at the surface.
Compatible with the DeckWise Drill & Drive™ system and standard 3/8-inch countersink bits.
100-count quantity is ideal for smaller projects, stair treads, or perimeter board finishing.

Pro tips for dense hardwoods

  • Always align the wood grain of the plug with the grain of the deck board before tapping it into place to ensure the plug becomes nearly invisible once sanded.
  • Use a high-quality exterior-grade waterproof wood glue, such as Titebond III, to coat the ribs of the plug for maximum retention in dense hardwoods.
  • Allow the glue to cure fully before using a flush-cut saw or belt sander to level the plug; cutting too early can pull the plug or leave a glue ring.
  • Apply a UV-inhibiting hardwood oil finish immediately after sanding flush to prevent the plug from weathering at a different rate than the surrounding board.

How to Plug a Hardwood Deck

1

Countersink the Screw

Use a 3/8″ countersink bit to create a flat-bottomed hole roughly 1/4″ deep. The screw sits at the bottom; the plug fills the remaining space.

2

Apply Exterior Adhesive

Put a small bead of waterproof polyurethane glue (included in kits) into the hole. Too much glue squeezes out and creates a mess; too little and the plug loosens over time.

3

Seat the Plug

Tap the plug in with a rubber mallet or wood block until it seats against the glue. Ribbed plugs self-center and grip irregular holes; smooth plugs work best in precision-drilled holes.

4

Flush-Cut After Curing

Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to cure fully, then trim the plug flush with a sharp chisel or oscillating multi-tool. Sand lightly and apply finish.

Pro Tip from Our Deck Specialists

Order plugs cut from the same species AND the same board lot as your decking for the closest color and grain match. Plugs from a different harvest can look noticeably different.
