About this product
The DeckWise Extreme Plug Ribbed in Cumaru is a bulk fastening solution designed to conceal face-driven screws in Cumaru hardwood decking and cladding. These plugs feature a specialized ribbed design that creates a high-friction fit to ensure they remain seated despite the natural expansion and contraction of dense tropical timber. This kit is intended for professional contractors and large-scale residential projects looking to achieve a fastener-free aesthetic on Cumaru surfaces.

Pro tips for dense hardwoods
- Always align the grain of the Cumaru plug with the grain of the deck board before seating to make the plug virtually invisible.
- Apply a small drop of waterproof exterior wood glue to the side of the plug to ensure long-term retention in high-traffic areas.
- Use a flush-cut saw or a sharp chisel to remove excess wood rather than sanding alone to prevent heat-related discoloration of the Cumaru fibers.
- Ensure boards are properly acclimated to local humidity levels before plugging to minimize the risk of plugs popping due to extreme board shrinkage.

Why Choose Plugs & Plug Kits?
How to Plug a Hardwood Deck
Countersink the Screw
Use a 3/8″ countersink bit to create a flat-bottomed hole roughly 1/4″ deep. The screw sits at the bottom; the plug fills the remaining space.
Apply Exterior Adhesive
Put a small bead of waterproof polyurethane glue (included in kits) into the hole. Too much glue squeezes out and creates a mess; too little and the plug loosens over time.
Seat the Plug
Tap the plug in with a rubber mallet or wood block until it seats against the glue. Ribbed plugs self-center and grip irregular holes; smooth plugs work best in precision-drilled holes.
Flush-Cut After Curing
Wait 24 hours for the adhesive to cure fully, then trim the plug flush with a sharp chisel or oscillating multi-tool. Sand lightly and apply finish.
Pro Tip from Our Deck Specialists
Order plugs cut from the same species AND the same board lot as your decking for the closest color and grain match. Plugs from a different harvest can look noticeably different.
