About this product

DeckWise WiseWrap Butyl JoistTape is a self-sealing waterproof barrier designed to protect the tops of deck joists and ledger boards from moisture-induced rot and decay. By creating a tight seal around fastener penetrations, it prevents water from seeping into screw holes and trapped moisture from sitting between the deck boards and the substructure. It is a critical component for installers of long-lived tropical hardwood decks who want the framing to match the lifespan of the decking material.

High-performance butyl adhesive provides superior self-sealing properties around screw penetrations compared to asphalt-based tapes.
3-1/8 inch width is specifically designed to provide full coverage for double-joist configurations or to wrap over the edges of standard 2x lumber.
Compatible with all pressure-treated lumber, tropical hardwoods, composite materials, and metal framing.
UV-resistant polyethylene backing maintains its integrity and prevents degradation during construction and over the life of the deck.
Acts as a corrosion barrier between metal fasteners, treated lumber chemicals, and the high-tannin content of hardwood species.

  • When installing dense hardwoods like Ipe, always pre-drill your pilot holes; the tape will naturally 'flow' around the screw threads to create a waterproof seal as the fastener is driven.
  • Use a J-roller or apply firm hand pressure during installation to eliminate air bubbles and ensure the tape is fully seated against the wood grain.
  • In colder temperatures below 40°F, keep the tape rolls in a warm environment until the moment of application to maintain maximum tackiness.
