About this product

The DeckWise SJB-4156 is a high-density polypropylene structural pedestal designed to level and support deck tiles or joist systems over uneven substrates. This screw-to-adjust component solves the challenge of installing flat walking surfaces on sloped rooftops or cracked concrete pads without permanent masonry work. It is specifically engineered for professional contractors and homeowners installing heavy tropical hardwood decking in demanding outdoor environments.

Precision height adjustment ranging from 4-5/32 inches to 6-7/32 inches.
Constructed from UV-stable, weather-resistant polypropylene for long-term durability.
Engineered to support high weight loads, making it ideal for dense Ipe and Cumaru tiles.
Integrated locking ring ensures height settings remain secure under foot traffic.
Compatible with both the Altitudes aluminum joist system and traditional timber framing.

  • 2Installing a Tigerwood or Garapa tile walkway over an uneven existing concrete patio without the need for slab removal.
  • 3Creating elevated boardwalks using Massaranduba where clearance is required for drainage or utility routing.
  • 4Supporting heavy Cumaru joist-framed decks on commercial balconies where weight distribution and height precision are critical.

Pro tips for dense hardwoods

  • When installing heavy tropical hardwood tiles, place a pedestal at every corner and consider mid-span supports for tiles exceeding 24 inches to prevent deflection.
  • Utilize 2mm or 3mm shim gaskets on the pedestal head to provide micro-leveling and acoustic dampening for dense hardwoods.
  • Ensure the substrate is compacted and stable; while these pedestals distribute weight effectively, they require a solid footing to prevent long-term settling of the hardwood structure.
  • Check local building codes for maximum allowable deck height when using adjustable pedestals on residential rooftops.

How to Install Hardwood Deck Tiles

1

Prepare the Surface

Ensure the base surface (concrete, existing deck, or rooftop membrane) is flat, clean, and has adequate drainage. Minor imperfections are fine; standing water is not.

2

Snap Tiles Together

Interlocking tabs on the underside of each tile click into the adjacent tile. No tools, screws, or adhesive required. Work from one corner outward in a grid pattern.

3

Cut Border Tiles

Measure the perimeter and cut tiles to fit using a circular saw with a fine-tooth blade. Leave a 1/4″ gap at walls or fixed objects to allow for thermal expansion.

4

Maintain as Needed

Sweep regularly and oil annually to maintain color. Tiles can be unsnapped and removed individually for cleaning underneath or replacement.

Pro Tip from Our Deck Specialists

For rooftop installations, check your building's weight load capacity first. Hardwood tiles over a pedestal system typically weigh 8-12 lbs per square foot when wet.
